Government of the people, by the people and for the people?

The government is too big to fail, almost by definition, but it seems to be too big to succeed as well. Private rockets to the moon? Who needs the shuttle? An educational system? Not from the national government. Infrastructure? Where are you, Dwight David? A prosperous middle class? Money has everything under its thumb? A health care monolith? The problem is more than just a matter of software. If the government were a business, we would have shut it down as a monopoly undercutting all the competent competition. Of the people, by the people, for the people? In your dreams!
